Picking Clothes (Maternity Portrait)
Hello! Congratulations on your coming baby!
To help you in planning for your upcoming shoot, below are some color pegs that you can check out. At least to start planning your clothes. This will be exciting! I won't ask you to buy new clothes. You can check your closets to know which colors you already have. Or well, this can be an excuse to do some shopping! :)
For maternity portraits, black clothes on black background and white clothes on white background look good, too!
Though black and white clothes look nice for classic black and white shots, we still encourage you to put in some color in your clothes. For a more organic feel for your images, check out the Farrow and Ball color palette. below.
Here are just some reminders when picking out clothes:
Keep it simple. Styles change and logos can look dated in a few years. Think timeless!
Don’t match your colors exactly. Like everyone in the picture wearing same color of clothes. Choose a color palette (check out the color pegs) and select some colors that go together but will keep the pictures interesting. Single colored clothes work well.
Patterns, why not? Although logo’s aren’t good, patterns are a nice way of creating dimention in the pictures. If you have a particular dress or outfit that is patterned, use this as your central point and dress the rest of your family in simple one-colored clothes from the colors of the main outfit.
Shoes are important! Please don’t just wear any shoe. The choice of shoe can make or break an outfit! Think fun and quirky. Colorful ballet flats or polka dot wedges. Maybe someone's shoes could coordinate with something you are wearing to bring the whole look together. Some clients don't bring shoes at all and make us crop their feet off! We could've done so much more. There are also instances when we do cocktail or more formal wear, and our clients are wearing slippers! Please include the shoes in the planning. :)
And before our shoot, please come in hairless! Kindly remove unwanted hair. You might also want to consider having your nails done or at least cleaned. And kindly do not wear anything tight at least 5 hours before our shoot. No tight underwear or shorts that will make it very difficult to remove.
Some clients don't want to remove their stretch marks, but some do. Whatever makes you happy, that's what we'll do! Just let us know how you want us to edit things.
